This non-profit organization was founded in August 2001 by a group
of Christian men and women who have a vision for the life-changing
impact that comes from establishing a "Follow Me"
relationship with Christ.
It is an outgrowth of Wayne and Nina Fox's personal
and professional ministry that began over 21 years ago in their
church, Fellowship Bible Church North in Plano, Texas. Wayne was
on the staff as an assistant pastor from 1986 to 2001 spending much
of his pastoral role in small group ministries.
In 1990, Wayne was experiencing serious doubt
and confusion about whether his "Christian walk" was really
working. The question that plagued him was "why wasn't
he seeing more change in his own life given his extensive theological
education, and his commitment to ministry?" Afterall,
he was supposed to be leading others in living the Christian life,
but there was uncertainity about how it was working in his own life.
Out of this context, God lead Him to examine
the book of Mark. At that time, he wasn't certain why. But, in retrospect,
it was drawn to it because God came down to earth and spent three
years pouring something into the lives of twelve men. And, at the
end, He said, "Go make disciples of others in the same
way I did you!!!"
God
began to move in Wayne's heart. It was through this study that Wayne
came to realize what was missing in his spiritual life. It was a
relationship of "Following Christ" in a dynamic
discipleship manner. Like the professional pastors of Christ's
day, the focus in Christian ministry was "trying to make people
become better" in their roles as spouses, parents, work professionals,
etc. by studying, learning, applying and performing God's Word in
their lives.
Wayne began to see that this had the process
upside down. Christ's invitation was to "Follow Him"--that
is our job. His job is "...to make us become fishers of men
(people who will love and serve others sacrificing themselves
on their behalf). This began a journey of Wayne and Nina seeing
that the discipleship process was to engage people in what it means
to follow Christ and get their focus off of trying to become.
This led to seeing people's hearts challenged
to let go of control (one issue as a time) and learn to trust. As
trust was formed in their relationship with Christ, the times of
following Him even through trials and difficulties took on meaning
allowing Him to expose the flesh they had been trusting in and let
go further through repentance.
As one's heart is softened through continuing
responses of trust and repentance, it becomes evident that God is
in charge of leading each one through the circumstances of their
life in a way that "He is making us become...a person that
was drawing others to Himself (i.e. fishers of men)!!'
Out of this context of a personal spiritual crisis
and the study of the Book of Mark, Wayne and Nina developed the
Quantum L.E.A.P. (Living an Example Amidst Pressure) Discipleship
materials and began using it more extensively in small
groups. After eight years of such ministry at Fellowship Bible Church
North, Wayne resigned his position. In 2001, they formed the non-profit
organization, Quantum L.E.A.P. Discipleship, Inc.
and began discipling men and women through this ministry. Their
vision and hope is that this will become the central core of ministry
to the lives of people as it was in the first century with the disciples
birthing the church...restoring the focus of making disciples in
the way Christ did. |
